Engaging the Private Sector: From Mapping to Action: Synthesis Report
Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible Relacionados y Objetivos del Pacto Mundial sobre Migración
This report captures case studies, examples, tools and lessons learned from countries who are engaging private sector actors in initiatives that harness the positive development potential of mobility. These tips and information can be useful for designing future activities that move from mapping towards the engagement of businesses in migrant employability and entrepreneurship initiatives.
The IOM-UNDP Global Programme on Making Migration Work for Sustainable Development works with 11 countries to engage with and encourage the participation of the private sector, diaspora and local communities in line with multi-stakeholder, “whole-of-society” approaches called for in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The first step in fostering private sector engagement was a comprehensive mapping of relevant private sector organizations in communities and countries that can contribute to addressing mobility through the socioeconomic integration of mobile people and creating durable solutions in coordination with host communities and local authorities. After conducting mapping and analyses, each country plans to utilize these analyses to develop concrete activities to partner and empower private sector actors.
To improve future similar activities in other countries, a knowledge exchange event was held to share good practices and lessons learned with a view to utilize private sector mappings to lead to private sector engagement plans and activities for migration and development-related activities.
