L’OIM Dakar et l’Initiative Conjointe pour la Migration et le Développement ont organisé, avec l’Institut fondamental d’Afrique noire de l’Université Cheikh Anta Diop, un colloque qui a réuni 30 chercheurs et doctorants spécialisés sur les questions de migration et développement pour faire l’état des lieux des recherches et données disponibles, marquant ainsi le début d'un réseau de partage des connaissances à l’échelle du Sénégal.

Le 16 décembre, en amont de la Journée internationale des migrants, l’OIM Dakar et l’Initiative Conjointe pour la Migration et le Développement (ICMD) resserrent ses liens avec les universités du Sénégal. Un colloque organisé avec l’Institut fondamental d’Afrique noire de l’Université Cheikh Anta Diop a réuni 30 chercheurs et doctorants spécialisés sur les questions de migration et développement pour faire l’état des lieux des recherches et données disponibles.

In its latest forecast, the European Commission has predicted that the asylum seekers influx could have a positive economic impact on the EU recovery.

The European Commission, in its Autumn 2015 Forecast entitled ‘Moderate recovery despite challenges’ published on Thursday 5 November, has predicted that the expected three million migrants over the next few years would have an overall positive economic impact on the European Union growth.

We live in a world which is becoming increasingly urban. Over 54 per cent of people across the globe were living in urban areas in 2014. The current urban population of 3.9 billion is expected to grow to some 6.4 billion by 2050. Migration is driving much of the increase in urbanization, making cities much more diverse places in which to live. Nearly one in five of all migrants live in the world’s top 20 largest cities. In many of these cities migrants represent over a third or more of the population. Other cities have seen a remarkable growth in migration in recent years.

On the 26thOctober, 2015, within the framework of the IOM Conference on Migrants and Cities, the JMDI, jointly with IOM, launched the “White Paper on Mainstreaming Migration into Local Development Planning and Beyond” at a side event held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Building upon the increasing recognition of the positive contribution of migrants towards inclusive growth and sustainable development in the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, this study is the result of the JMDI and the IOM joint efforts to provide a thorough analysis of what has been done thus far in terms of mainstreaming migration at the local level to paint a global picture of working processes, lessons learnt and policy recommendations for future mainstreaming exercises.

The 3rd World Forum of Local Economic Development (LED) took take place in Turin (Italy) from 13 to 16 October 2015, gathering more than 2,000 participants from 130 countries, including the General Secretary of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon, several ministers and over 60 mayors worldwide. Among the various panels of the LED Forum, the JMDI was invited for the second time, to participate in the two sessions dedicated to the theme of migration.

The 3rd World Forum of Local Economic Development (LED) took place in Turin (Italy) from 13 to 16 October 2015, gathering more than 2,000 participants from 130 countries, including the General Secretary of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon, several ministers and over 60 mayors worldwide. 

During these three days, national, regional and local governments, associations, entrepreneurs, academics, researchers and members of civil society were able to discuss how to achieve more inclusive, innovative, equitable and environmentally sustainable development.

Près de 600 représentants de 150 pays et 30 organisations internationales, dont l’ICMD, se sont réunis pour la 8ème édition du Forum Mondial sur la Migration et le Développement et la Réunion au Sommet à Istanbul, en Turquie. Le GFMD 2015 a marqué la septième participation et le soutien actif de l’ICMD à l’évènement, principalement avec l’organisation d’un évènement parallèle intitulé « Explorer le rôle clé des autorités locales dans la promotion de l’agenda international de la migration et du développement ».

Près de 600 représentants de 150 pays et 30 organisations internationales se sont réunis du 12 au 16 octobre 2015 à Istanbul pour la 8ème édition du Forum Mondial sur la Migration et le Développement (GFMD) et la Réunion au Sommet qui s’est tenue sous la Présidence de la Turquie.
