Global Report on Internal Displacement 2018
Title Global Report on Internal Displacement 2018
The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) released the Global Report on Internal Displacement 2018 (2018 GRID). It provides the latest trends and updates on internal displacement caused by conflicts and disasters. The 2018 GRID features figures on internal displacement globally, but also presents regional overviews and special focus on local and national events that have triggered displacement.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement, this year’s GRID also details opportunities toward making progress in reducing internal displacement. It discusses policy progress, risk and impacts, as well as the way forward. Finally, it introduces data gaps and challenges in accounting for internal displacement.
Internal displacement, due to conflicts or disasters, are also a huge challenge for linking mobility to development policy. With linkages to issues such as local integration or return, this GRID shows that incomplete (re)integration can lead back to internal displacement, with 8.5 million in 23 countries with no durable solutions. This GRID also builds linkages with the SDGs, and provides evidence of correlation between human development, disaster displacement risk and economic loss risk.
