Results and lessons learned
Achievements:
- Organized a multi-stakeholder project in the municipality of Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte, among NGO, LGU, Cooperative, and OFW and Families Association;
- Established a P3 million coco-coir business;
- Generated investments from OFWs in Europe.
Results:
- Provide jobs to 45 local workers, including unemployed rebel returnees;
- Augment income of 100 small coconut farmers from the supply of coconut husks;
- Provide geo-nets and coco peat for erosion control and soil enrichment respectively in a disaster rehabilitation project in Iligan City.
Lessons learned:
- There is a need for continuing investments to sustain, upgrade and scale up production and operations;
- Continuing training of workers in efficient production-operations management;
- Underdeveloped local market potential especially in road construction projects. Major market remains to be trader-consolidators for the China market;
- Continuing and pro-active support from local government.

Main objectives
- Increase capacities of migrant workers to contribute to development of local economy;

Main beneficiaries
- Overseas Filipino Workers – individuals and savings groups in Europe participation in training in Migrant Savings and Alternative Investments (MSAI) to save and invest in enterprises and development projects in home communities.
- Families of OFWs in Kolambugan – trained and invested in saving and investing.
- Unemployed, including returned rebels provide skills and jobs as productive members of society helping them to integrate into the fold of the law.
- Local government personnel – (Mayor, MEEDO, MPDO) sensitized in entrepreneurial endeavours as strategy for local economy development.
