Associations migrantes, associations villageoises: une mise en réseau pour un développement local et solidaire au Maroc

Short title

Associations migrantes, associations villageoises

Start date - End date

Wed, 09/30/2009 to Wed, 03/30/2011

Brief description of the initiative

The project aimed at enhancing the quality and relevance of local development actions conducted in partnership by migrant associations in France and rural associations in Morocco (especially in the rural areas of the country with the highest emigration rates).

Results and lessons learned

The first round of training courses for 24 interns - half of which are female - have been completed. The courses include a week of training followed by a two-month internship in one of the 18 village associations involved in the project, after which the interns write reports on what they have experienced and achieved, and are coached individually by trainers. The regional seminars for village associations from each of the three macro-regions had been held in the South (with 11 organisations taking part) and in the North-East (where the regional grouping includes 9 associations). A migration and development event was also held in Paris during the first months of this project's implementation. Production of a short film on the project is also underway.

Main objectives

The project aimed at enhancing the quality and relevance of local development actions conducted in partnership by migrant associations in France and rural associations in Morocco (especially in the rural areas of the country with the highest emigration rates).

Country

Morocco

Main activities

It set out to do so by strengthening civil society organizations in both countries and creating or reinforcing networks interlinking them. Ultimately, the strengthened organizations are enabled to be acknowledged interlocutors of the public institutions, thereby watching over local governance from a civil society perspective. Besides the training and capacity-building components, the associations were also brought together in international networks, which also included other European organizations and Sub-Saharan associations (mainly from Mali and Senegal). The whole experience was documented and disseminated.

Main beneficiaries

The direct beneficiaries of the project were 17 rural associations in Morocco; 22 leaders from these associations who would take part in a 1-year-long theoretical and practical course on project management and relevant themes; and 14 migrant associations in France who are members of IDD. Indirectly, entire rural communities, as well as the development organizations working with them, benefited.
