The First Global Mayoral Forum took place in Barcelona, Spain from June 19-20, 2014 and gathered 30 Mayors and City Representatives. The overarching themes of this Forum included “City Government: Its Leadership Role within and between Countries Regarding Global Migration and Mobility Governance” as well as “Fostering Economic Prosperity and the Virtual Circle of Development.  See the concept note, the programme, and/or JMDI newspiece for more information.

The result of this Forum was the Call of Barcelona, which was endorsed by the cities representatives present and emphasised the need to amplify the voice of cities in global discussions, and assure greater access and inclusion of local decision-makers in matters pertaining to migration. Additionally, this document calls for the inclusion and dignified treatment of all migrants.
