INVITATION: GFMD Reflection on Migration-related SDGs in the 2030 Agenda
Type of event
On the eve of the Tenth Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Summit to be held in Berlin on June 28-30, the GFMD 2017-2018 Co-Chairs Germany and Morocco are pleased to announce that a GFMD side event entitled “GFMD Reflection on Migration-related SDGs in the 2030 Agenda” will be held at the margins of the 2017 High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, on Wednesday, 12 July 2017, from 13h15 to 14h30 at Room 4 of the UN Conference Building.
On this occasion, the GFMD 2017-2018 Co-Chairs would like to share the findings contained in the GFMD’s report, “Recommendations of the GFMD to the 2017 HLPF,” which was submitted by the GFMD in April 2017 upon the invitation of the ECOSOC President. The report constitutes the GFMD’s substantive contribution to the 2017 HLPF that focuses on the theme, “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world.”
GFMD’s contribution highlights the manifold linkages between migration and the SDGs, and explores the explicit and implicit references to migration in the 2030 Agenda, by using the following broadly defined categories:
- Explicit migration-related targets;
- Targets that can and should address the specific vulnerability and protection gaps specific to all groups of migrants and thus offer corresponding mechanisms to address these;
- Targets that could benefit from the potential of migration and migrants;
- Targets that address drivers of migration including employment or employment creation and thus have a direct influence on poverty alleviation and lowering of migration pressure.
Policy-makers and practitioners are invited to attend this GFMD side event. Here is a brief description of the event with a draft programme for your reference. Lunch will be served from 12h30 – 13h15 near the venue. Those who would need a UNOG badge are requested to register by writing to firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday, 5 July 2017.
The GFMD 2017-2018 Co-Chairs Germany and Morocco look forward to an engaging discussion with all Member States and key stakeholders in our joint effort to leverage and strengthen the interlinkages between migration and development.
With kind regards,
Mr. Götz Schmidt-Bremme
Ambassador for the 2017-2018 GFMD
