Global Migration Film Festival: Bringing stories of migration to the world (5-8 December 2017)
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is organising the Global Migration Film Festival, which intends to steer the debate on migration at a time when it has become a key issue of public interest. These films portray the complexities of migration, and raise attention about the hardships many migrants face when fleeing their homes as well as their contributions. The festival has engaged universities, local governments, cultural centres and the private sector to host screenings and post-film viewing debates during the 14 days of the Festival which culminates on International Migrant’s Day on 18 December. The Global Migration Film Festival wants to communicate that “migration is not a problem to be solved; it’s a reality to be managed.”
The festival broadcasts more than 20 films free of charge, and they include different sort of movies, from drama to comedy. Last year, the film festival took place in 89 countries. This year the IOM anticipates over 100!
