TOWARDS A COMMON EUROPEAN ASYLUM SYSTEM: the Added Value of the Legislative Package of Second Generation
Type of event
The Odysseus Academic Network organizes the 7th edition of the European congress devoted to the European asylum policy following the completion of the 2nd generation of asylum instruments in June 2013. It is organized in collaboration of the Global Migration Centre of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 April 2014 at the Université libre de Bruxelles.
The objective of this congress is to provide the audience with a double level of analysis: firstly, a "vertical" analysis of the new instruments by a general report in order to understand the novelties introduced by the new instruments and to measure the progress accomplished with more harmonisation at EU level; secondly, a "horizontal" analysis of several questions throughout the instruments in order to evaluate their coherence by a panel of speakers.
The desired outcome of this congress is to assess the progress made towards the CEAS (Common European Asylum System) and to envisage the next steps ahead in view of the strategic guidelines to be adopted by the European Council in June in the area of Freedom, Security and Justice for the next five years.
