Launch of 3 new projects on migration and development
Three projects funded by the EC-UN Joint Migration and Development (JMDI) will be officially launched at a Press Conference in Cairo on 23 March 2010 organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Implemented by UNDP in collaboration with IOM, ILO, UNFPA and UNHCR, the JMDI is a joint initiative between the European Commission and the United Nations supporting Civil Society Organizations and Local Authorities working in the area of migration and development, and seeks to identify what makes migration work for development.
The three JMDI-funded projects in Egypt include an initiative to partner German-Egyptian women entrepreneurs with women entrepreneurs in Egypt to provide training and advice, a project to transfer skills from Egyptian migrants in the aquaculture industry in Greece to develop the industry in Egypt, and a project to develop the capacities of NGOs in Upper Egypt involving Egyptian expatriates based in Cyprus. Participants at the Press Conference will include the grantees and representatives from the United Nations, UNDP, IOM, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EU Delegation.
