This project will create positive linkages between migration and development in Jamaica through increasing the protection and social inclusion of migrants and their families.
The overall objective is to reduce the negative impact of migration on MGHs in Jamaica by increasing access to information, services and entitlements and reducing socio-economic exclusion. Outputs will include a feature documentary, career guidance manuals and case studies. Expectetd results include: improved policies/programmes supporting migrants' families; improved protection of MGHs' rights; improved access to support services for migrants' families and income opportunities.
The main activities are: research and public consultation on needs of migrants' families, counselling, support services and remittance-management training to 150 families, register 3,500 to access social services, training 500 grand/caregivers in parenting, training 100 members of migrant households in SME development and provide micro-credit access, 200 in marketable skills, and career guidance for 1,000 schoolchildren.
The main beneficiaries will include: 1,500 poor MGHs (7,500 people) affected by migration in 3 inner-city Kingston communities: Rose, Greenwich and Whitfield Towns.
